Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

This is a quote I place in my classroom right above a class display , because the statement is so true. It takes working together as a team to achieve a  goal, and the New York Football Giants are doing just that!

Let’s flashback to the preseason, after the lockout was lifted and analysts were rating teams based on schedules. The Giants were projected to finish third in the NFC East, behind Philly’s “Dream Team” and Dallas. Needless to say, they were not a part of the possible Super Bowl conversation . Now no New York Giants fan in their right mind believed that projection. As far as we’re concern EVERY SEASON the Giants will take the East, beast the playoffs, and be Super Bowl bound. Not to say there wasn’t unnerving games this season, like the sweep by the ‘Skins and the loss to the Seahawks. Along with the fact that other losses caused us to have to vie with Dallas to control the division. I guess it’s true, drama must have its moment. Sidenote: Let's take another needed dramatic pause. Let Terry Bradshaw  have it Mrs. Mara! LOVED THIS!!!

As more and more pieces started to fall in place and injured players began to return, the Gmen seemed to find their second wind. Mind you, analysts where still doubting their presence and consistency of their performance, but the team played on. Fans questioned offensive play calling during games, but Eli proved why he deserves his “ELITE” status and marched his offense to six fourth quarter comebacks. Not in any way to short change the defense holding the opposing team for Eli and crew to do work.  JPP with 16 ½ sacks, Umenyiora with 9 sacks (one for each game he played), Tuck with 5, Tollefson with 5 , Canty with 4, Joseph with 2, and Kiwanuka with 3 ½ sacks! Let me pause to say, DEFENSE is a beautiful thing! Hold on, but let's not forget even special teams was handling business this season.  With the acquisition of Steve Weatherford from the Jets at punter and players like Devin Thomas coming up with crucial turnovers, yeah I’m referencing that Niners game, special teams has definitely been upgraded. All sides of the ball coming together as one!
Now the Gmen’s dreams have become their reality. They have made it to the championship game! NFC East Division Champs became the NFC Champions! Mind you many are calling this progression luck, funny for other teams it’s called capitalizing on mistakes, but for Gmen it’s “luck”. Whatever, it’s your determination to press towards your destination, not others’ conversations, that’s the goal. The New York Football Giants have the opportunity to show their tenacity, resiliency, and the power of working as a team.  Many are referencing Super Bowl XLII, the Gmen’s  17-14 win over the Pats in the ’07 season.  We all know this game will not be a walk in the park. As much as I hate the Pats and Brady, I respect their game and rise to the championship in the AFC. Brady is an elite quarterback, no question about it across the league. Now he’s being matched up with a more confident Eli Manning, who leads in actions not just words. Two elites are going heads up, so I throw out the quote that we’re all familiar with, “Defense wins championships”.  Will the Giants defense be able to stop “Mr. Unstoppable”? Will the Patriots defense be the kryptonite for “Super Man(ning)”?  I am looking forward to this match up, in exactly seven days! Our  improved special teams, our determined, will not be denied defense, our offense with Manning and his triple threat wide outs (Cruz, Nicks, Manningham) and his triple threat backs (Bradshaw, Jacobs, Ware) will make for a formidable Super Bowl XLVI match up and an awe inspiring Giants win! Yeah, I’m calling it, a Giants win. What else would you expect from a Giants fan and a Manning “stan”…I bELIeve! Go Big Blue!
